Several years ago, my wife and I had the opportunity to visit Lijiang, China. It’s a historic city close to Myanmar (Burma). The old town area is a circuitous tangle of shops , restaurants and tiny hotels. The streets have small canals with swift, clear water, full of huge beautiful trout. We noticed that the establishments have high thresholds for their doorways. You have to step over them when you enter a shop. That’s because, in ancient times, the water was dammed every night, allowing the town to flood. When the water was released in the morning, it took all of the filth from the streets with it, leaving the town clean.
It occurred to me recently how analogous this is to the Blood of Christ. I start fresh each morning because it washes me clean, removing all of the pollutants from the previous day.
“Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God.” Heb 9:14 NLT.
